Take A Kid Fishing

Taking a kid fishing much more than just catching fish, it's about having fun! Keep in mind that your expectations are probably not your kid's expectations. A fun experience can lead to future years of fishing enjoyment. Take time out to explore the area you are fishing. Try looking for bugs or animals or even skip rocks across the water. Above all remember, you are taking the kids - they aren't taking you. This means leave your fishing rod at home!

1) The first step in a fun fishing trip is the going to the bait shop. The minnow tanks have always been a favorite for my kids. Here you can also guide their selection of tackle and of course snacks. Even if the fishing is slow the trip will have still been fun for them.

2) Choose a body of water that will offer a high likelihood of success. My son as with most kids will be much more satisfied catching lots of smaller fish such as bluegills rather than catching fewer, bigger fish such as bass. Catching a bunch of bluegills during first few outings will peak your child's excitement and put a big smile on their face when you tell them about the next trip.

3) Choose a spot close to home. This is important as you never know how long the trip may last. The big fishing trip may last only 15 minutes or it may last 2 hours. Above all when young partner is ready to leave don't force the situation because you drove so far. By taking them home when their ready and keeping it fun they will want to go again.

4) Going fishing in the morning is always a better idea. The fish will be more active, kids are rested, you will be rested, and the temperature will be moderate.

5. Bring plenty of patience along. You will be unsnagging lines, baiting hooks, and landing fish for them often. On your fishing trips with youngsters, they will get dirty, fall down or even get a little wet.

6) Provide your young partner with simple tackle in working order. Nothing can be more discouraging to a child than complicated equipment or equipment that doesn't work. Just a simple cane pole still catches lots of fish!

7) SAFETY - Make sure your youngster is always wearing a PFD. In most states it's the law for children. I would also recommend bringing along some sterile bandages, insect repellant, and sunscreen.
